Conferences & Events

PSI is a working research institute, but it hosts scientific meetings for its user communities and, from time to time, opens its campus to the public.

Scientific conferences

PSI announces its conferences and workshops on its Indico event pages. One example is Science@FELs, a conference that meets every two years on scientific highlights from free-electron laser facilities around the world; in September 2026 it was held at PSI.

Schools and students

In its Summer Student Program, students join a PSI research group for at least seven and up to twelve weeks, with lectures on PSI’s main research areas, lab tours and a social programme. PSI also runs a Particle Physics Summer School; the 2026 school, its 27th, was held in Morschach, away from the campus.

Open days

PSI holds occasional open days. On 23 October 2022 at least 15,000 visitors came to more than 40 stations across the campus, including tours of SwissFEL, the Swiss Light Source and the Cockcroft-Walton proton pre-accelerator. Open days are not held every year, so watch PSI’s website for announcements.
