PSI Visitor Center
The PSI Visitor Center, called psi forum in earlier PSI publications, explains PSI’s research with interactive exhibits on 13 thematic islands and a 3D cinema. It is open Monday to Friday and on Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00, and closed on Saturdays and on several public holidays, including a winter break around the turn of the year. Admission is free and you do not need to book (status as of 3 November 2026).
Guided tours
Public tours are for individuals and groups of fewer than 12 people. They are held in German and last about two hours: an overview presentation, a 3D film, the exhibition and a visit to the research facilities. Groups of 12 or more can book a free group tour of 1.5 to 3 hours in German, English or French, up to four weeks before the desired date, on weekdays (status as of 3 November 2026).
iLab for school classes
The iLab, opened on 4 April 2008, is PSI’s laboratory for school classes, where pupils of all school levels do physics experiments themselves – for example, hearing an alarm clock fall silent in a vacuum chamber because sound needs air. In its first ten years, 28,343 pupils visited the iLab.
Getting there
By train, travel to Brugg AG on the Zurich–Basel and Zurich–Bern lines and take bus 376 towards Döttingen; it stops near the PSI West and PSI East entrances, about 20 minutes from Brugg. From Zurich Airport the journey takes about 75 minutes. The address is Forschungsstrasse 111, 5232 Villigen PSI.
